  • Our NESCent working group proposal has been funded. The first meeting is May 20-23, 2007 at NESCent headquarters in Durham, NC. For more information, see the working group wiki.
  • EIG helped to organize, and participated in, a NESCent phyloinformatics hackathon in December, 2006.
  • Our next telecon: TBA

Overview: Purpose and activities of the Evolutionary Informatics Group

The Evolutionary Informatics Group is a small group of people that, at present, is united mainly by the goal of developing a Perl infrastructure to facilitate evolutionary analysis of molecular data. However, the reason that we chose the name "Evolutionary Informatics Group" is that various subsets of this group share diverse and sometimes broader goals, including:

  • developing broader (not just Perl, not just molecular) informatics support for evolutionary analysis
  • developing a robust relational schema for character-data-and-trees data sets
  • carrying out specific analysis on evolutionary questions of interest
  • developing software to visualize outputs of evolutionary analysis (trees, reconstructions)

We began to collaborate to pursue some of these goals in the spring of 2006. Some of our activities include:

Discussion, 29 June 2006 meeting in Philadelphia, PA Lunch, 29 June 2006 meeting in Philadelphia, PA

Target problems ("use cases")

Below is the table of contents for our use case list (summer, 2006), which was the seed for the more extensive NESCent use case list.

Tests

Here I want to start a list of specific test problems, including data files and expected outputs.
