Overview: Purpose and activities of the Evolutionary Informatics Group
The Evolutionary Informatics Group is a small group of people that, at present, is united mainly by the goal of
developing a Perl infrastructure to facilitate evolutionary analysis of molecular data.
However, the reason that we chose the name "Evolutionary Informatics Group" is that various subsets
of this group share diverse and sometimes broader goals, including:
developing broader (not just Perl, not just molecular) informatics support for evolutionary analysis
developing a robust relational schema for character-data-and-trees data sets
carrying out specific analysis on evolutionary questions of interest
developing software to visualize outputs of evolutionary analysis (trees, reconstructions)
We began to collaborate to pursue some of these goals in the spring of 2006. Some of our
